Gene Hernandez was born in Stockton in 1959. He
attended Garfield and Adams Elementary Schools. He
attended Stagg and Edison High Schools before attending
San Joaquin Delta College for two years. He attended
Lewis & Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho.
Stagg High School – 1975 SJAA Basketball Champions
Edison High School 1976-1977 – Basketball – two-year starter
Averaged double figures in points both Jr & Sr years
1977 – Senior year Baseball – pitching record was 6-2
1977 – Joe DiMaggio Summer Baseball League Champions
Pitching record was 8-0.
Voted State Tournament Most Valuable Pitcher (pitched two complete no run games)
1978-1979 – Joaquin Delta College
1979 – Valley Conference Champions
1979 – Pitching Record at SJDC 13-2, Era 1.69

1st Team All Northern California
1st Team All State
Selected in the Baseball Winter Draft
1978 – 5th Round – San Francisco Giants (declined)
1979 – 11th Round – San Francisco Giants (declined)
1980-1981 – Lewis & Clark State College

Voted 1st Team All League and 1st Team All Region
Pitching Record was 11-2 with Earned Run Average of 2.41
1981 – Signed professional contract with San Francisco Giants. Released in 1982
1989 – Serpa’s Arco Fast Pitch Softball National Champions
Voted Outfielder 1st team All American
1998-2005 – Varsity Pitching Coach at St. Mary’s, Bear Creek & Stagg High Schools
2012 – Inducted into Mexican American Sports Hall of Fame
Also coached Litte League 14 & under travel ball `
