Eric A. Long

Athlete/Basketball/Baseball

Eric was born in San Jose, CA in 1951, and then resided in Stockton from 1951-1969. He attended Madison Elementary School, Webster Junior High School and graduated from, A.A. Stagg High School in 1969. With a full scholarship for his academic and athletic ability, he completed his education at
University of California, Berkeley As a junior, Eric was named to the All-City and All-Central California Conference first teams in both basketball and baseball. Maintaining high academic standards, he was a member of the California Scholastic Federation and was Stagg’s representative to the American Legion Boy’s State Conference.
As a senior, Eric led the basketball team to a 24-2 record and 16-0 in the CCC Conference play. He graduated as the 3rd all-time leading scorer in Stagg’s history behind Stockton Athletic Hall of Famers Bob Garibaldi and George White. He then pitched the baseball team to the Central California Conference championship with an 11-0 record, sporting an earned run average of 0.05. He was selected as the All-City and All-CCC players of the Year in both sports.

For his achievements in baseball, he was drafted by the New York Yankees but chose to attend U.C. Berkeley on a basketball scholarship. At Cal, he was the starting point guard for two seasons and team captain. During the 1971-72 season, he set the school’s assist record which stood for many years until broken by future NBA star, Kevin Johnson.
In 1993 he was selected to the 2nd team of the Stockton Record’s “San Joaquin County Dream Team.” Post athletics, Eric developed a strong passion for hiking. He backpacked the California section of the Pacific Crest Trail, that covers the 1,750 miles from the Mexican border to Ashland, Oregon. Eric currently resides in Fair Oaks, CA and has two children Adam and Heather.
