Everett Rey played baseball at the high school, junior college, college, and professional levels and was a high school coach. Everett was born in Stockton. He attended Grant and Jackson Elementary Schools, Stockton Jr. High School, St. Mary’s High School, Delta Junior College, and Cal Poly College.
He played high school baseball at St. Mary’s, where, as a catcher, he was selected to the All-League team as a senior with a batting average of .429. He was selected to a high school All-Star game before entering San Joaquin Delta College. In 1977, he was drafted by the Minnesota Twins but chose to pursue his education and enrolled at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. After playing there for two years, he was signed by the Cleveland Indians in 1979. His first year, he played for the class “A” team in Waterloo, Iowa, and was selected for the All-Star game. The next two years, he played Double “A” ball in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and was selected to the 1982 All-Star team. The following two years, he played at the Triple “A” level. He was invited to the Major League camp three times during his five years in the minors.
He left pro ball to go to work for FedEx and is a Senior Manager now in the Oakland Distribution Plant.
While working full time, Everett also devoted his extra time to coaching baseball at the high school level. He has spent nine years coaching the Lincoln High School team, four years as the Varsity Coach.
Everett coached the San Francisco Giants rookie team for six years, which allowed him to help many players advance in their college and professional careers. He also coached the All-American Under Armour AAU team at a national tournament in Arizona.
