Keith was born In Los Angeles but moved to Stockton and attended Madison and St. Bernadette elementary schools; St Mary’s High School (1971- 1974); San Joaquin Delta College (1975-1976) and Fresno State (1977-1981).
Keith played baseball at St Mary’s High School
from 1971-1974. In 1975-1976 he played for the Caballos team in the Mexican American League before attending and playing baseball at Fresno State from 1977-1978.
Fresno State was also the beginning of Keith’s coaching career. Keith was a graduate-assistant in 1979-1980, and became the assistant Coach in 1982. In 1978-79-82 Keith experienced three NCBA Conference Championships as a player and coach at Fresno State.
In 1981 Keith coached the Fowler High School baseball team winning the WACAL championship and was recognized as then “Coach of the Year”.
In 1983 Keith managed in the Italian Professional Series A League at Pesaro Scavolini in Italy. In 1985 Keith was an assistant coach at Southern Louisiana.
During the summer of 1985 he was the Base Coach for the Milwaukee Brewers’ Single A Team, the Stockton Ports.
In 1986-1987 Keith was the assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator for the University of the Pacific, and in 1988 and 1989 Keith was selected to become the Pacific head baseball coach.
Keith’s coaching career moved him into a scouting role which began in 1990 where he worked for the Montreal Expos from 1990-1992 and scouted for the Florida Marlins from 1993-2001. He also coached in the Gulf Coast League at the rookie level for the Florida Marlins in 1993. As the coach he went on to win the league championship with 7 players from that team who went on to the major leagues.
In 1992 Keith was the outfield coach for the Expos Low A team in Albany, GA, The Marlins won the World Series in 1997 in which Keith received a World Series ring. Between 2002 to 2005, he was one of 9 scouts for the entire United States for the Montreal Expos (one year) and the Kansas City Royals scout in Northern California from 2003-2005.
From 2006 through 2023 Keith retired from the San Francisco Giants as their Nor Cal lead scout. Keith oversaw the scout team from 2010-2017. In that time frame Keith was awarded 3 World Series rings from the Giants for the 2010-12-14 MLB seasons. Keith was awarded the Dick Tidrow Scout of year in 2021 that had included future Giant stars in Logan Webb, Austin Slater, and Kyle Harrison.
Keith resides in Stockton with his wife Mary Louise.
