Pete played football and coached at UOP,
and recently retired as Coach of the NFL Seattle
Seahawks.
Pete played football at University of the Pacific
where he was an All-Pacific Coast Conference
selection for two years (1971 and 1972 seasons). He
was a graduate assistant football coach for three
years at UOP.
He coached as an assistant coach at Arkansas
(1977); Iowa State (1978); Ohio State (1979): North Carolina State (1980-1982); UOP (1983);
Buffalo Bills (1984); Minnesota Vikings (1985-1989); New York Jets (1990-1993); New York
Jets head coach (1994); San Francisco 49er’s assistant coach (1995-1996); New England
Patriots head coach (1997-1999); Southern California University head coach (2000-2009);
and Seattle Seahawks head coach (2010-2024).
At USC, his teams were national champions in 2003 & 2004. His USC college teams won
four Rose Bowl and two Orange Bowl games. Carroll had two undefeated league seasons
and three seasons with only one league loss.
His final college coaching record was 97-19 (.836) in nine seasons with a 69-13 (.841)
record in the Pacific 10 Conference.
Pete’s NFL record as head coach was 170-120-1 (.587) over 18 NFL seasons (2010-2023).
He coached the Seahawks to the XLVIII Super Bowl Championship in 2013. In 2014 his
Seahawks lost in the Super Bowl to the Patriots. His teams were the NFC champions in 2013 &
2014. His professional head coaching record with the Seahawks was 137-89-1 (.628). Under
Carroll, the Seahawks finished first in the NFC West five times and six times finished second.
Sixteen of his assistant coaches became NFL or NCAA head coaches. In retirement,
Carroll remains an advisor to the Seahawks.
Carroll and his wife, Glena, have three children Brennan, Jaime and Nate. Brennan and
Nate were part of their father’s coaching staff.
