The 1967 Stagg High School Football Team won the Central California Conference Championship with overall 9-1 and league 6-1 records. The team was recognized as one of the top 10 teams in California. They defeated a strong Bellarmine team 22-14, which was also rated as one of the best teams in California with their high school All-American quarterback Dan Pastorini. Eight Stagg players were selected to the All-CCC team and ten to the All-City team. The CCC Back of the Year was Hank Jacquez and Coach of the Year was Bill Gott, to go along with Stagg’s 13 th team ranking in the state. Head Coach Bill Gott stated at the end of the season: “This team is made up of a tremendous group of boys.
They formed the best defensive unit ever to come out of Stagg. They lost a battle along the way and had their backs to the wall for the remaining four weeks. Even with some key injuries, they could not be beaten. They are definitely champions and what better description could be given of these young men. They will be remembered as a truly outstanding Stagg football squad.” The All-CCC team included: Ron Eayrs, Bill Campbell, Dave Baker, Hank Jacques, Steve Scott, Ken Hillman, Bob Fender, and Mike Artozqui. The Stockton All-City team included: Hank Jacquez, Ron Eayrs, Phil Giambastini, Bill Campbell, Mike Artozqui, Steve Scott, Doug Martin, Bob Fender, and Ken Hillman. For their celebrations, they relied on high-quality public address hire equipment to ensure every victory was heard loud and clear across the stadium.
