RENE’E SIMMONS-WILKINS
BASKETBALL/VOLLEYBALL/SOFTBALL PLAYER & COACH

Rene’e grew up in Stockton, attending Stagg & Edison High Schools. She was All-League and All-City, receiving six varsity letters in basketball, volleyball, and softball. She was selected Co-MVP in basketball in the San Joaquin Athletic Association for the 1976-77 season as her Edison team went to the Section Tournament. She attended San Jose State University, where she played basketball for two years. Following college she worked for the California Department of Public Health as a public health care professional training, educating, guiding, and motivating other medical staff. While on the faculty of the University of California San Francisco she was awarded multiple awards for innovative Community Health Outreach projects for high risk individuals.

In 2001 Rene’e returned to Stagg High School to coach the Girls’ Junior Varsity and Freshman basketball teams. In 2011 she did the same thing at Chavez High School. She founded the AAU Stockton Heat and later the Stockton Knights, where she has coached the past seven years. She touched at least 375-400 young lives and continues to work with youth to instill the values of athletics and learning life skills.

JEFF SIMMONS FOOTBALL/BASKETBALL/TRACK/BASEBALL PLAYER & COACH Jeff Simmons grew up in Stockton and attended Edison High School. He played in the Pioneer Little league and Canal Babe Ruth baseball league. He was a 13-year-old All-Star who advanced to the State Tournament. He played football three years with the North Stockton Bengals, which won their league championship three years in a row. As a Stockton Jr. High School 9th grader he was a member of the 8-2 Championship basketball team ,scoring 22.0 points per game. He also participated in track with a first place long jump of 20’ 9” and a second place 5’ 8” in the high jump at the All-City Meet. Starting in 1975, Jeff played football, baseball and basketball on the Sophomore teams. He was called up to the Varsity in Basketball and scored 17 points in a triple overtime 58-56 win vs. Franklin.

H SIMMONS FAMILY H In his junior year at Edison he was a first team Stockton Record All-City and All-SJAA wide receiver, leading the league in pass receptions. He was named to the All-Northern California Team and was selected to play in the annual Kiwanis All- Star Football game. In basketball he averaged 21.5 points per game. The Vikings won the SJAA tital with a season 23-5 record and advancing to the semifinal round of the Section Tournament. Jeff was selected to the All-SJAA team, All-Northern California Basketball Team and was the Stockton Record Player of the Year. He graduated from Edison with a 3.2 grade point average. Jeff accepted a football scholarship to Southern California University. In his Junior season he caught four passes for 77 yards to defeat #1 ranked University of Oklahoma in front of 90,000 spectators. That year he led the Pac 10 in reception yards (973); second in receptions (56) and in the top 5 for average per reception (17.4 yards). He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the 7th round and played for them in 1983. The following year he signed a free-agent contract with the Los Angeles Raiders but was on the team’s injured reserve. He returned to Stockton and helped coach football at Edison, St. Mary’s, and the San Joaquin Rams Pop Warner Team. Jeff was a 30-year veteran of the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department, reaching the rank of Lieutenant and retiring in 2015. He has published articles for the Sheriff’s magazine and is completing a counselor’s degree at the Bible Based School of Theology. He resides in Stockton with his wife, Denise, has five children and five grandchildren.

KEVIN SIMMONS BASKETBALL–HIGH SCHOOL/COLLEGE/YOUTH & H.S. COACH Kevin grew up in Stockton. He played CYO Basketball for St. Luke’s Mustangs, who went 44-3 and took 6 th place in the National BCI Basketball Tournament. In 1975, Kevin went to St. Mary’s High and played on an undefeated Freshman basketball team. The next year he was named MVP of the sophomore team. The following year he led his team to a Valley Oak League title and a CIF Sac Joaquin Section Division II Championship. The following year St. Mary’s moved into the San Joaquin Athletic Association and he again led his team to a 12-2 league record and 29-5 overall. His team won three pre-league season tournaments followed by St. Mary’s winning the SJAA and Section Tournaments. Kevin was named All-Tournament in the Tournament of Champions in Oakland. He also was selected to play in the California North/South and Stockton Kiwanis All Star Games. Kevin enrolled at Washington State University, playing for HOF Coach George Raveling. After two injury-filled seasons he transferred to Whitworth University and was named to the NAIA All-District 6 team. He was invited to play in the Los Angeles Summer Pro League for the Clippers and averaged 10 points per game while shooting 64% from the field. The next year he toured with a group known as the Baratta All Stars, playing in tournaments on US Army Bases around the world. He worked as a wine maker at Delicato Vineyards while coaching the Right of Passage School and was named Coach of the Year in the Mountain Valley League in 2007. He remains a Counselor at the At-Risk Youth School and is the Athletic Director. He currently resides in Stockton and has three children and one grandson.
