Laura Stubbs is a great example of a true outstanding multi-sport athlete. Although Laura was born in Marietta, Ohio, she moved to Stockton at the age of 9 months. Her first organized athletic experience started when she became a catcher in the Stockton Bobby Sox Softball Organization.

Laura was selected to the Stockton Bobby Sox All-Star Team for four consecutive years (1974-1977).

Laura attended Lincoln High in the fall of 1976 and in her first year of high school she was a member of the girls JV tennis team, the girls JV basketball team, and the girls varsity softball team. In her sophomore year at Lincoln (1977-78), Laura was a member of the varsity team in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She helped lead the softball team to a 15-6 record with a .346 batting average. She was named to the All-City First team (Catcher) and to the SJAA First Team (Catcher). During the summer of 2978, Laura was a member of the Major North Stockton All-Stars. During her junior year (1978-79), Laura made the SJAA All-Star team in both volleyball and softball, and also made the All Tournament team at the Edison Softball Tournament.

Laura’s senior year (1979-80) was her finest year. In volleyball, she was named the MVP of the team and was selected to the All SJAA First team. In basketball, Laura was selected to the SJAA All League team with an average of 11 points/game. In softball, she had a batting average of .351, led the team with 4 triples, and was a First Team All SJAA selection.

Laura Stubbs was named the 1979-80 Female Athlete of the Year for Lincoln High School. All in all, Laura received 12 letters for her athletic participation.

Laura Stubbs was recruited to the University of the Pacific by Coach Cindy Reynolds and attended the University on a softball scholarship. Laura was a key player as catcher during her freshman year (1980-81), and she helped lead the team to a 19-16 record.

During her sophomore year (1981-82), Laura led the team in doubles, triples, home runs and RBI’s and was selected as the First Team Catcher for the Northern California Athletic Conference (NorCal) All-Star Team.

In the 1983 season, Laura was the catcher on the first Pacific softball team to earn a berth in the NCAA College World Series, where they finished fifth. This 1983 Pacific softball team was named the Team of the Year by the Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame. In 1997, this team was inducted into the Pacific Hall of Fame, and in 2003 the team was inducted into the Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame.

Laura finished her Pacific softball career (1984) by setting a single season record with 5 triples, and a career record with 11 triples. In addition, she was selected to the Softball Academic-All American team (2nd team). Laura was named as a Pacific Scholar-Athlete for all four years.

After graduating with honors (Cum Laude) from Pacific, Laura attended the University of Indianapolis and earned an MS in Physical Therapy (1988). Laura was employed by Kaiser Permanente as a Physical Therapist for 22 years.

Laura Stubbs-Dammel currently lives in Acampo with her husband Ken.
